A Dolly Kei Coord for Feeling Nostalgic

It's been ages since I've posted a personal outfit coordinate (aside from worky outfits on tumblr and instagram), and I was feeling inspired by the cooler weather and the general nostalgia I've been having for older Dolly kei styles (putting together sets upon sets for tumblr will do that I suppose, hehe!) Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good full-length shot. But! I did get a few good detail shots in it's place.

I was really inspired by Miwako's make-up! I'm not always the biggest fan of her coords, but I always love how she does her blush. I also have always loved red lipstick with Dolly, so I decided to give it a try myself. I'm really happy with it!

My blouse and skirt are incredibly old H&M, fake fur stole is vintage, shoes are Jeffrey Campbell, Necklaces are Fashionably Dead and F21, Tassel is second hand, rings are from all over the place, cross earrings are Claire's, tights are H&M, and my hair piece is handmade.

And in case anyone likes my make-up, my powder is MAC Studio Fix in NC15, my lipstick is MAC Red, my blush is MAC but I'm not sure of the colour because the name is worn off, my eyeliners are Urban Decay in Zero and Yeyo, my shadow is Urban Decay's "Black Palette" in Barracuda, and my mascara is Benefit's "They're Real!".

I hope every is having a really lovely evening, and I hope you enjoyed my coord :)

Hello Everyone!

Sincerest apologies for the lack of posting in the last couple of weeks! I've been very busy, but I'll be back this week with favorite snaps, inspiration posts, and all my usual things.

I'm working on a new layout and design for Strange Girl. I've had this theme and layout since I began this blog, and I think it's time for something new! I'm still not 100% sure how it's going to look, but I'm thinking of going a little darker this time around!

As always, you can still find me on Tumblr, Twitter, Poupee Girl, and "DollyMacabre" on
Instagram.

Hope you're all having a lovely day!

Finally! Innocent World's Grazia Crown Print!

Hello there...

My Innocent World "Grazia Crown" short jsk sans petticoat since I was wearing this to work (and going for dolly as opposed to lolita really). With my favorite Jeffrey Campbell shoes! I'll have a full shot soon-ish. I had taken some but I was experiencing a serious case of "derp face".

The "high-waisted" version arrived today, so I'm hoping to do a comparison video. Until then, here's my little YouTube video of myself opening the "short" version:

A Few Little New Year's Eve Thoughts.

This last year has been both beautiful and trying for me. There have been times when I just wasn't sure what I was going to do, and how I was going to get through it. There were also times where I was so happy I didn't think I could take it, times when you sort of stop and think "I will never be as happy as I am right now".

I'm having a solitary New Year's so far. Stay in and and spend it quietly? Or go out and tear up the city? I haven't decided where I'm going to end up tonight, but I've learned some things this year and I'm going to share my resolutions/promises to myself for the next year:

Personal and Life-wise I'm going to:

• Say "no". I work myself to death and I realized that it's not making me happy anymore.
• Be happy. I can't control how people treat me, but I don't have to let their personal spite change who I am.
• Be kinder to myself.
• The days of allowing anyone to mistreat me are officially over.
• Eat more sweets. I think there is too much focus on denying ourselves. I'm going to indulge this year.
• Move a little closer to vegan.
• Be more active in the local Lolita community.
• Finish reading "The Unbearable Lightness of Being".
• Not feel guilty for getting what I want or what I deserve.
• Cook for myself. I rely a lot on pre-made items (not processed, just made by someone else etc). It's expensive and I know that I can make a lot of it myself.

Fashion-wise I'm going to:

• Wear more Classic Lolita. I've always loved Classic but have never been able to bring myself too far from Gothic. And the classic pieces will go so well with my Dolly Kei wardrobe.

• Wear more colour. My wardrobe is mostly black. With Dolly, I'm going to add some darker jewel tones, and since I'm branching into Classic Lolita, I'm going to try some dusty greens and pinks.

• Circle lenses. I've always liked how they look, so this year I'm going to take the plunge and get a pair.
• A wig. Why not?

Blog-wise I'm going to:

• Post more outfit photos. I put so much effort into my daily outfits, I'm going to document them.
• Post more informational posts.
• Change my blog's appearance and theme.
• Fancy up my Tumblr!
• Do give-a-ways! I really want to do this and I never seem to have the time to organize it.
• Links to places I like to shop/ possibly make my wishlists public so anyone can see what I've been looking at lately.
• Finish my Fwamu Guide.

I know I won't be able to do all of this. But I'd like to think I can at least make a little headway here :)

I hope for the best for everyone in the New Year, and look forward to continuing on with Strange Girl. Thank-you everyone who's chosen to follow and/or read my little blog :)

Little Update

Not feeling great, I think the Christmas over-exertion/workaholicism is finally catching up to me.

But hey! Look at this necklace! My new obsession is accessories from Schwarz Schmetterling. This photo is from the Flasco blog. I do so love a crucifix...

Whimsy & Decor: Easy Autumn Centerpiece

I wanted something seasonal for my table, but not necessarily "Hallowe'en".

I decided to go with a traditional "harvest" theme, and incorporate things I already had in my home. This is so simple and cost-effective to do!

Items for this centerpiece:
•Antique cake stand (but you could easily substitute for a pretty plate or silver tray).
•Small pumpkin (the only thing I bought new for the centerpiece).
•Two pears (I had bought a basket of them, and this is a great use while I'm waiting for them to ripen!).
•The last two tomatoes from my potted garden.
•Antique iron mouse figurine, but again you could easily subsitute for something else.

Really easy, and so many variations you could do. I plan on changing out the mouse for one of my animal skulls a little closer to Hallowe'en, and maybe adding some twigs.

My Wishlist for Autumn

Carousing the internet the past couple of days, I've stumbled upon some items I need to add to my autumn wardrobe.

Until I saw this photograph, I had no idea I needed one of these furry bear ear hats. In fact, I thought they were a bit much. HOWEVER! Now that I see one matched with beautiful prints and lovely soft make-up, I NEED one.

Crystal point pendants. In the blue and green shades. I think these tend to get associated with wiccans and hipsters, but I want these (and don't care! CRYSTAL POINT NECKLACES ARE COOL *said in the 11th Doctor's voice*).

Ditto for the rings.

Red rocking horse shoes. Because only owning black ones just isn't cutting it for me. And I think red is great!

Wedge maryjane loafers. In green or brown. Because just look at them!!!!

Tapestry boots (these are by Poetic Liscence). These need no explaining! Imagine them with some patterned tights (or black lace tights!) and a flowy dress!

Nars "Outremer" eyeshadow. How will I make this crazy blue eyeshadow work? I have no idea. But something in me neeeeeeds it!

What are you lusting after for your fall wardrobe?

Little Death on my Balcony

The other morning I woke up early, it was my day off (not super early, 10am, so earlier than I would ordinarily arise on a day that I don't have to work).

I went downstairs, turned on the kettle for my first cup of tea, (on my days off I'll start my day with tea, if I'm working I'll have coffee), and turned to see my Kittie sort of pawing at my balcony door. It was strange because usually he greets me when I get up, and he wasn't paying me any mind at all.

So I went to see what was so interesting, and found this: a sweet little yellow bird dead on the balcony. It didn't have wounds, so I think he must have hit the window. I checked to see if maybe he was just knocked out, but sadly that was not the case.

So I took some photos for my own personal birdie memorial photos, and then placed him in a floral-print box from a Betsey Johnson watch, with some fabric and some bird seeds. I buried him in the yard, and marked his tiny grave with stones.

I don't know. It's a little death but it made me sad.

Goodnight sweet little birdie.

Updates/Changes

Another week of busy life schedules interfering with my blog schedule :(

I'll be back to posting "Favorite Snaps" on Mondays, "Inspirations" will be moved to Wednesdays, and hopefully I'll be able to fill in the in-betweens with trends etc.

I've also bought a few iPhone apps and have been using them, so I'll have some reviews for them as well. ( I find it hard to find apps that appeal to me ).

I'll also be adding little things like nail polish tests too.

Here's to getting back on track!

( The beautiful illustration above is by one of my favorites artists, Yoh. )

Hello Darlings!/A Bit of Montreal~

After a few days of resting, I'm ready to re-join the "real world" (well, mostly).

So for the last three weeks I've been in Montreal for work. I meant to take more pictures, but like every other time I go on an "adventure", I get distracted and forget. But I do have a few! And some great shopping hauls to document this week.

My hotel was basically like a cute little apartment. By the end of my trip, it went from looking like this, to being covered in accessories, clothing, shopping bags, plushes, and Toki Doki unicorns, hehehe!

These weird little wall chairs were neat, so I made sure to sit on every one.

I love how everywhere you turn, there was history jutting out of the modern.

Panda Bar. I didn't go in because I like to believe that the inside decor was all pandas, with pandas everywhere, and bartender pandas. I don't know what that pink line is.

Awful blurry picture! There were vans everywhere with TVs on them blaring commercials. It was strange.

I just really liked this window display. Raccoons in tutus!

This was in the window display of a children's clothing store. Disturbing.

The outside of what must be the strangest vintage clothing store I have ever been in. Along with all the vintage clothing, there were mannequin parts everywhere, plushes covering everything, piles of lemons and real live bunnies. The few mannequins that were in one piece were creepy to say the least. And the owner looked like Santa.

I ate a loooooooooooot while I was in Montreal, but it seems these were the only food pictures I took. I ate one of these icecreams almost every day I worked, haha.

Other things of note: I walked by a bar that was all red-lit inside and had a giant monkey painting on the wall that looked like Hunter S. Thompson. And while I was on Sainte Denis, a punk rocker yelled "Justin Beiber sucks! Save the world man!" at me.

I wish I had thought to take more pictures! But I'll be doing a separate "Montreal Haul" post this week.

I'm so glad to be back!
