A Little Music in the Early Hours
It's 3am here, and I'm wandering around my house aimlessly, listening to music and singing to my cat. I realized I haven't made a music post here in quite a while, so this is what I've been listening to this morning:

Arcade Fire love
Last night I saw Arcade Fire live (with opening act Final Fantasy). This is the second time I've seen them, and they were every bit as amazing as the first time. Brilliant, witty, lovely, moving and so gracious to the audience.

They closed with Sprawl II, and it was one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed.
(Wyn also mentioned that they had filmed the video for " We Used to Wait" while they were here :) )

Tonight I dream of Ian Curtis

On this day in 1980, Ian Curtis of the brilliant post-punk band Joy Division, hung himself in his home at the age of 23. It was on the eve of what would have been their first North American tour.
I don't think I need to go into all the details of his life, as I'm sure many bloggers have and will when this day comes along every year. Suffice to say, he suffered from depression, physical and mental illness, which I'm sure with the stresses of his band demands, caused him a lot of duress.
What I will talk about though, at 1am on this May 18th, is how I feel about Joy Division and what Ian Curtis's music meant to me.
I can remember being about 14, and not being particularly happy. I'm sure a lot of you can relate to just "not fitting" at some time, possibly still. I don't think this feeling always goes away for a lot of us, I think maybe we just get comfortable with it. So I'm 14, unhappy, I don't fit. And I stumble across "Love Will Tear Up Apart". I don't remember how, but what I do remember is the melancholy voice, the wistful lyrics and the strangely cheerful melody. I didn't know what I was feeling at the time, but when I think about it now, I think it's akin to recognition, or to be cliche, the feeling of coming home.
When you're 14 you don't consider that other people might be able to relate to what you're feeling. It escapes me sometimes still. But here was Ian Curtis singing all these lonely things, and all these sad things, and I knew what he was saying. Some of the things, heartbreak for example, I didn't understand until I was older, but there he was when it happened, singing exactly what I was feeling in these moments when I feel so lost and hopeless.
Things like this and music like this are precious, they can save people in one way or another. Ian Curtis has kept me company during many lonely times, and has kept vigil in the dark with me when I've been afraid. My heart is broken and I hear myself in "Atmosphere". I question myself and where I'm going and it's "She's Lost Control". I'm waiting and it's "Shadowplay". Blissful abandon and I'm "Transmission". In turn I always take him out to play on this day, no matter how long ago (maybe just a minute ago?), it's been since I've listened to him, and I take a peek at the Joy Division posters lovingly rolled into their tubes from my teenage years, too cherished to ever throw out.
And now I'm older, I'm still unhappy sometimes, I still don't fit, but I'm sitting here with a cup of tea and listening to "Unknown Pleasures", and it's quite okay because I'm definitely not alone.
From "Transmission":
Radio, live transmission.
Radio, live transmission.
Listen to the silence, let it ring on.
Eyes, dark grey lenses frightened of the sun.
We would have a fine time living in the night,
Left to blind destruction,
Waiting for our sight.
And we would go on as though nothing was wrong.
And hide from these days we remained all alone.
Staying in the same place, just staying out the time.
Touching from a distance,
Further all the time.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Well I could call out when the going gets tough.
The things that we’ve learnt are no longer enough.
No language, just sound, that’s all we need know, to synchronise
Love to the beat of the show.
And we could dance.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.

If you are not familiar with Joy Division, I highly suggest the album "Unknown Pleasures" and the film detailing Ian Curtis's life "Control".

Updates, Tumblr!
Still deciding what purple polish to go with (lol), so in the meantime I set up a tumblr account here:
Dolly Macabre
It's Dolly Kei but also any other images or quotes I find interesting/inspirational but may not be suitable for this blog. I'm still in the process of making it look decent.
Do you have a tumblr? Let me know here/link so I can follow you!
And now a little music:
(this is the "clean" version of the video, but a little of the imagery may be questionable to some folks)

Little Updates
As the title says, just some little updates:
1)The make-up tutorial is put off (again), the pictures are just not working as I wish. Which brings me to...
2)My YouTube channel???? I'm probably going to have to do the make-up tutorial as a video, so I set up the channel. No videos yet, but there's some favorites if you want to see what I'm enjoying on YouTube at the moment.
Strange Girl YouTube Channel
3)I'll have some more tutorials later in the week. I was hoping to get some in today, but I haven't been feeling well and wasn't able to get to the fabric store or my usual craft supply store.
And now, a little song for you:

A winter princess longing for spring? (insert your own pretentious title here, lol).
Today I was obsessed with off-whites, dusty roses and pale greens. So I ate french cremes and came up with this coordinate:

Polka-dots, this & that.
Re-posting this beautiful coordiate from the Grimoire blog. I had been thinking about using polka-dots in a Dolly Kei ensemble, but had been hesitant because it isn't typical of the patterns you see. Silly me, it works and looks AMAZING:

I'll definitely be attempting a polka-dot coordinate after seeing this.
Came across this beautiful tapestry bag, not only is it gorgeous, but it's huge! I love a huge purse (I'm a pack-rat). Sadly, try as I might, I couldn't find any information about it, whether it's vintage or something newer I could purchase.

Randomly found this rather strange "portrait":

Some Christmas things because I'm feeling festive!
So now that I'm off from wortk for three days, I can appreciate the festive feeling a little more (helps that it's Christmas Eve as well I suppose). Sipping chocolate, eating some delicious shortbreads, and everything smells like my Christmas tree. And some tiny snow flurries! Delightful!
I've been collecting images of victorian Christmas greeting and postcards:

I love the one with the birds!
My favorite Christmas song: The Pogues & Kirsty McColl "Fairytale Of New York"
And just for fun: My Christmas list if I could have whatever I wanted, no matter how expensive:
1)A Judith Leiber purse. I do not have words for how much I want one. Too bad they run about 3000$, hahaha.

2)Vivienne Westwood Pirate Boots. Someday, I WILL have these. I don't know how, but I need them. Around 800$

3)Moi Meme Moitie Divine Cross JSK special edition (the special gold version). I WANT IT NOW.

4)This crazy bow dress by Marc Jacobs. It's insane and that is what makes it so glorious. Also, I can't resist anything with a giant bow. 568$.

5)This jacket from the Viktor and Rolf for H&M collection. It came out years ago so unless I want to spend thousands on ebay, I can't get it *sadface*

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you all have a safe, healthy, happy and wonderful time :)

Lovely finds, Eclectic Eccentricity Webshop, Favorite song this week.
Had a lazy sleepy day today, mostly sat about having tea and looking through my wardrobe. So I didn't get anything I wanted accomplished. But, I did take some pictures of some great things I found on Tuesday.
Delightful HUGE pearl and ribbon necklace from H&M. It was 14.95$ but on sale for only 5$! I'm excited to layer this with my birdhouse and locket necklace, this is pretty much what I have been looking for for ages.

These earrings were also on sale at H&M, for 2$. I don't plan on wearing them, but taking them apart to make other stuff. Thrilled!

Weird tin-edged wooden picture of a rococo-looking lay. It has a metal loop on top, so it's going to have to be tured into a necklace, hehe.

Also on the "I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!" note, this amazing webshop was pointed out to me by a co-worker. I'm pretty sure they illegally went into my brain and made everything I love. The shop is called "Eclectic Eccentricity", and their tagline is "jewelry with inpired kookiness", which pretty much sums it up. In their shop you'l find vintage and antique inspired pieces, featuring birds, scissors, cameos, bows, flowers and hearts galore. I AM IN LOVE! My favorite pieces:

Last but not least, my favorite song this week. I can't stop playing it:
